South Woodham Ferrers is a town in the south-east of the Chelmsford district, in the CM3 postcode area, east of Fenn Creek near where it meets the River Crouch. At the 2021 census the parish had a population of 16,026. The area was mostly farmland until the railway station opened in 1889, and in 1974 Essex County Council adopted a masterplan that expanded the town with large housing estates and a new town centre.
